The Bottom Line
A strong cold front will spark some turbulent, active weather across all of New Jersey on Wednesday. A line of thunderstorms will roll in (and exit) quickly in the afternoon. And then a brisk wind will cause temperatures to take a big tumble Wednesday night.
We’re looking ahead to roller coaster temperatures. Our next rain chance will arrive this weekend.
Wednesday
Runaway warmth and bright sunshine made Tuesday a spectacular spring day. Wednesday will start off fine. But Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night, not so much.
We’re waking up to temperatures primarily in the 50s. As clouds increase Wednesday morning, thermometers will push toward a high around the mid 60s. So far so good.

People were warned of rapidly rising rivers and surface flooding as 80 to 120mm of rain was expected to accumulate, especially in the ranges.
Meteorologist Tahlia Crabtree said the worst of the rain was expected to land tomorrow morning but the low-pressure system responsible was already on the move, approaching the region.
Northwest Cherry Challenges Pt 2
Tuesday Apr 20th, 2021 With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. Northwest cherries are in full bloom right now and are looking pretty good at this point, but recent winds and unseasonably cold nights have undoubtedly cut the crop outlook from what it had been.
Northwest Cherry Growers president BJ Thurlby says the weather has been a challenge, but they’ve got another ongoing threat …
THURLBY … “We think this crop, off of the top, is going to be down two to two-and-a-half million boxes from what is our number one issue in our industry right now which is called Little Cherry Disease. And, that’s kind of been going on the last four or five years, we’ve seen it grow and grow and grow. And, now we’re at the point where we’ve got all hands-on deck trying to figure out how we’re going to stop this.”
Northwest Cherry Challenges Pt 1
Monday Apr 19th, 2021 With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. Like everyone else in the world this past year, including those in agriculture, Northwest cherry growers have seen their share of challenges, from COVID to a frosty spring and other weather-related issues.
Northwest Cherry Growers president BJ Thurlby says it’s not been easy …
THURLBY … “We’re about half way through bloom. We’ve got, what I consider to be a gorgeous bloom going, but we’ve had, in the last week, a lot of wind and wind doesn’t translate well to pollination because bees don’t like the wind any more than we do.”
